Welcome to Buda Historic Home & Garden

Buda is an authentic goldfields villa house and garden located in Castlemaine Central Victoria.

Named after Budapest by its Hungarian owner, Ernest Leviny, it was home to the creative Leviny family for 118 years and houses their significant intact collection of furniture, art works and personal belongings. It is surrounded by an historic 1.2ha garden featuring a unique 19th century Bird Aviary and Tennis Pavilion.

An accredited museum with Museums Australia, Buda is open for public viewing year round, and is complemented by an annual events and exhibitions program. We encourage you to visit this important piece of goldfields history, which includes an onsite Nursery and Giftshop.

Buda is a charitable not-for-profit organisation supported by Mount Alexander Shire Council and is recognised as an important historical and cultural asset of Victoria.
